Our client base is diverse ranging from Silicon Valley executives, college students, tech folks, doctors, lawyers, construction workers, and business owners. Briggs Law handles all criminal defense issues ranging from white-collar crime, racketeering, and organized crime to bar fights and everything in between.
Yes. Unlike many other firms, we are transparent about our track record. Curtis Briggs lost a DUI trial in 2013, a racketeering trial in 2016, and a murder/robbery in 2022. We define a loss by a conviction at trial where we could not beat the original plea offer when our client was sentenced. There was no plea offer in the 2016 and 2022 cases so we believed we should make the government prove their case.
Briggs Law always approaches a case with dismissal or a win at trial in mind. Plea bargains come about after we have worked hard on your behalf. We are experienced crisis managers and focus on proactive, aggressive strategies to give you the best chance of success.
Briggs Law is owned and operated by someone who knows exactly what it is like to be accused of a serious crime. We strive to provide second chances and we have had some of the most significant victories in the criminal law field.
Yes. Briggs Law has devoted thousands of hours pro bono on behalf of Black Lives Matter, Native Americans, prisoners, and the wrongfully accused. We have had widely publicized victories for Death Row inmate Douglas Stankewitz, Black Lives Matter, and more.
Unlike some other lawyers, our consultations are not a sales pitch. You will leave with honest, actionable advice. We charge for consultations because we will help you develop a plan of action to improve your or your loved ones' situation whether you retain us or not. Our consultations are focused, in person, and specific to your situation. If you cannot afford to retain us, we can usually match you with one of our affiliates.
We do not like flat fees because every client's case differs and often requires different litigation strategies. Instead, we do incremental retainers which are replenishable. For example, if we estimate your fees to be $100,000, we will accept $50,000 down and $10,000 payments as the retainer becomes low. We only charge for exactly what we do. If your case is dismissed, you do not owe us any additional fees, and we don't keep your money like lawyers who charge flat fees. We are efficient and specific which means every client gets the value they deserve.
Every case varies considerably so you'll need to speak with us before we can estimate your fees. Emergency pre-charge representation is $5,000-$10,000 for serious cases or cases involving risk to a professional license (medical degree, law degree, etc.). We do make exceptions in certain circumstances. Typical felonies can be anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000 over 1-2 years. Murder cases can range from $100,000 to $500,000 over 1-4 years. Things that can amplify fees are the seriousness of the charges, life sentence exposure, multiple co-defendants, wiretaps, distance, etc.
As part of our consultation, we will connect you with talented attorneys who work on a different business model and take lower fees or payment plans. You can always hire Briggs Law in the future if you are not happy with your current attorney.
We keep our caseload low so that all cases get maximum attention. This is why we do not discount our services and usually charge hourly. We generally will not exceed 5 murder cases and 30 serious felonies at any one time. Most clients have Curtis's personal cell number for direct and immediate communication.
